Inspired action – the seed of the first Earthday back in 1970. Rivers were literally on fire, dumping of industrial toxic waste was a free for all, habitat loss and species extinction started getting attention – Earth day became a collective movement to give voice to the natural world in great peril.
AND IT WORKED! The Clean Air and Clean Water Acts as well as the Endangered Species Act, were passed soon after the first Earth Day. What we can do as a collective is inspiring – to create positive change for all. Water and air quality are better off than in the 70s, AND we need to keep doing better – this time, directed at climate change.
Earth Day offers an opportunity to reflect on our relationship with the earth – our impact, ways to live more in harmony with all living beings, and changes we can make for the benefit of all. It is a day of reflection that hopefully leads to inspired action.
Inspired action is potent;it comes from pausing, connecting with yourself, and connecting with whatever you hope to invest your energy – not from a head place, but the heart. Once the flame of inspired action is ignited, you can get your mind on board to leverage change in a positive direction.
If you find solace, comfort, and joy in nature – Earth day is the perfect opportunity to give back for all that you have received – by taking inspired action. Perhaps you might have always thought about composting and are ready to commit or donate money to a local land conservancy or an organization such as Trees Charlotte or Trees Davidson. Now’s the time.
Friday, April 22nd, Earth day – carve out some time for yourself to delight in the natural world and let this connection inspire your action.
On Earth Day, I will be leading a day retreat at Rocky Creek Ranch with Wendy – gentle yoga teacher extraordinaire – where we will be connecting with the natural world in restorative and inspiring ways. This retreat is perfect for supporting you with inspired action directed toward environmental protection or any part of your life.
